It was now about 10.15 and I needed to head back down, since I wanted to get to the climbing gym later in the day. The snow was perfect for jogging down--styrofoam interspersed with pockets of powder.

I try to photograph these trees nearly every time I come through here, but most of the time the shots are ruined by contrails from all the north-south jets. Today I got lucky.

This is the approximate image that the fellow I ran into this morning was capturing. I hope the light turned out for him. I sure am envious of that D3x...

I couldn't decide about which of the next two images to include, so I gave up and included both. I like the first because it captures lots of wind action up high. Unfortunately there is a hated contrail in the image, plus a small dust smudge (the D300s self-cleaning capability is not foolproof). The second has a bit better cloud formation, and no contrail. They were taken just about 5 minutes apart, so one can see how quickly the conditions change up high.
