Trimming the Tree

date: 12 Dec 2009 -- updated: 13 Dec 2009

Saturday was Christmas tree day, and so off we went to a nearby farm that we last visited a couple of years ago. They have a pleasant man-made forest and lovely views, and the trees have not been 'pencil-sharpened' too egregiously. The last time we were here we saw a herd of 30-40 elk, but I hadn't brought my camera. Now I had it, in case the herd were still there...

As predicted, the children were nearly as excited to run among the rows of trees as they were to pick one out.

Lara has very specific ideas about what attributes the perfect tree must have.

Ewan is merely interested in helping to cut the poor thing down.

Naturally we spent the requisite interminable amount of time looking at identical tree after identical tree, endlessly weighing the possibilities. Lara marked each tree with a bit of branch. Hours later nearly every tree had been so marked--we had to consider each and every one.
