The Road to Mount Emily
date: 25 May 2008 -- updated: 26 May 2008
Bryan, Phil and I decided to spend a Sunday making our way up usfs road 31, which departs I-84 just past Meacham on the way to La Grande, Oregon, and follows several ridgelines on its way to Mt. Emily, which overlooks La Grande. We decided to go as far as we could before snow stopped us, and then we took numerous detours on the way back. Since it was Memorial Day weekend, there were many people camped out (many with campers bigger than my house, complete with satellite TV), so we weren't exactly alone.

We saw a lot of wildlife, including numerous individual deer that returned our curiosity.

We stopped for a while and Bryan improvised some rain protection.

It didn't seem to synchronize well with his little bit of hair.

The views all day were much like this one. Mist moving up and down mountain valleys, exposing and obscuring the steady march of further ridgelines.

Phil and I each took many photographs. I will only bore you with a few of mine here.
