I turn and head further up the mountain. I had ascended under the lift, and am now some distance above the lift house. I welcome the bootpack, and notice some climbers ahead of me who are also availing themselves of its comfort.

All around me is crunchy and uneven ice, and it is getting steeper.

A glimpse of Illumination Rock over some brilliant ice crystals.

Acres of Diamonds...

About to overtake some fellow climbers, I finally decide its time for crampons and the axe. It would not feel good to go sliding down this stuff.
