Cooper Spur

I left at 5am on Sunday morning, with the goal of getting to the top of the Cooper Spur. I didn't know if the road to Cloud Cap was open and passable, so went on my own in the event I had to leave from the Tilly Jane trailhead. That would have made for a 15-20km day and an elevation gain of 5-6000 feet. Turns out the road was open, and passable, and I wished I had brought Sally, Lara and Ewan along. Oh well, there's always next weekend.

It was a beautiful day, and the hike went really well. Next morning I was saddened to discover that a mountaineer died just a few hours after I left, and his body came to rest not far from my turnaround point. Apparently he was descending the Cooper Spur route and was struck by a stone. News story about accident on Mount Hood.
