Mark Knopfler

date: 01 July 2008 -- updated: 02 July 2008

We have been looking forward to this event for months. Sally would check mark knopfler's site nearly every day to find out when tickets would go on sale for the North American tour, and she was registered for all the alerts. One day the note arrived that next morning at 10am local the tickets would be available for advance purchase on the site. We logged in at 10:00:01 and wound up getting very good seats, about five rows back from the stage.

We met Linda and Sam, our relatives, as well as friends Riley and Lyndsey, for dinner at Higgins beforehand. Sally's brother Phil was unable to come due to the recovery from a recent (and very inconveniently timed) surgery, so his son Sam stood in. I understand that Sam's attitude about Mark Knopfler and concerts in general has been transformed by the experience.

The meal was pleasant, the conversation engaging. We spent a long time over dinner, which was a little hard on Ewan, but he held up pretty well nonetheless.

Riley and Lyndsay, looking forward to the show.

Sam doing his best to pose with his mother, but it's a trial to stand still for so long.

We give up.

Here we are, about to go in...

We found our seats and sat down. We were right down near the front, on the right side from the audience perspective. A girl named Jesca Hoop sang several songs to open the show.
